RICKENBACKER 325 LENGTH SERIAL
There are some that believe that since it has no serial number, it may have been the original V-80, a solid-body prototype for the series, since no other record of V-80 exists. Yes, to my memory, the Polynesian was never sold, though it was completed and preserved beautifully. Up for sale is a super cool and ultra rare left handed 1983 Rickenbacker Model 325 in very good vintage condition and perfect working order. It is believed to have been the template for the reissue C58. Later, this guitar was stripped of hardware and tossed rather roughly around the shop for years. There was an Asian girl group that used this guitar with a phony middle pickup put in for photo sessions. They kept one around the shop for years, using it for photo sessions, adding a pup, taking a pup out, using it for mock-up, etc. There's another pic of Hall holding a sunburst (autumnglo) 325 in the same manner.

No matter, because V-81 and V-83 were virtually identical. I've always heard that guitar he's holding was V-81. Still, other examples of both styles can be found in the original production run, as well as F hole examples, and examples without them.

RICKENBACKER 325 LENGTH SERIAL NUMBERS
#V83, two serial numbers later, received no such modification. There is a sales receipt showing this shipment, with serial numbers. It was shipped to Germany with those modifications. The Model 325C64 duplicates the Model 325 as produced in 1964complete with semi-hollow Maple body, re-shaped body and headstock, three. When they were returned to the Santa Ana factory for shipping, #V80 mysteriously received a four-control upgrade, including Rogan "oven" knobs. They were to be shipped to Steinway Musichaus, Hamburg. This guitar was taken to the 1959 NAMM show in Chicago, where a German music dealer bought several Rickenbacker guitars, #V80 being one of them. Given the limited appeal of these short-scale models, the 325. As such, it’s likely the shortest-scale electric to attain star-guitar fame. Its scale length was a mere 20 inches, putting it in the student-sized range. This guitar is believed to be the very first "real" 325 made. Mods, rare features and refinishes aside, the Rickenbacker 325 was something of an oddball to attain legendary guitar status. However, there is photographic evidence of #V81 being displayed by John Hall in 1958. It is believed that #V80 was a guitar known as the "Polynesian", because no sales record of #V80 exist. There is some odd history surrounding these guitars. Here's #V-83, two serial #'s away from John Lennon's. Here's a treat for you nostalgia buffs my buddy John Williams bought two of the origimodels.
